Program Overview

The doctoral program in hydraulics aims to strengthen national expertise in this crucial field while meeting the needs of socioeconomic sectors. In recent years, Algeria has faced increasing pressure on its water resources due to the country's socioeconomic development, which is increasingly reducing its availability. Furthermore, climatic hazards pose a real threat, and their exacerbation risks further aggravating the situation and affecting various socioeconomic sectors, particularly agriculture. To address this issue and propose possible solutions, we offer doctoral training focused on the skills and knowledge needed to understand, manage, and resolve water management challenges. The objective of this program is to: • Provide doctoral students with an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of water, both quantitative and qualitative, such as hydrological, hydrogeological, chemical, ecological, and environmental aspects, in order to complement and enrich their Master's degree program. • Acquire technical skills through the tools and measurement techniques necessary for the collection, analysis and interpretation of data (in situ or laboratory experimentation, model, software, program, GIS, etc.) • Develop a working methodology that takes into account the issues and challenges of water resources such as water stress, water pollution, climate change, water security, access to drinking water that align with the sustainable development goals set by the UN for 2030. • Propose possible solutions (decision-making tools) for sustainable management of water resources in order to integrate them into the planning strategies of sectors and/or socio-economic partners and the possibility of implementing them through start-ups. • Prepare doctoral students for the professional world through collaboration and exchanges with the socio-economic partner. Thus, by training doctoral students through their research course within the laboratory for the preservation and protection of water resources and in collaboration with the socio-economic partner, we aspire to ensure that this doctoral training contributes to meeting the challenges linked to the management of water resources, by offering solutions that are scientific, technical and sustainable for the protection and preservation of this resource.
