Browse Programs Admission InformationThe doctoral program in Anthropology of Amazigh Heritage and Culture is an academic and scientific approach, combining anthropology, history, linguistic anthropology and cultural sociology to explore the multiple dimensions of Amazigh culture and heritage, particularly in the Aurès region, which is poorly documented in this field.
It offers doctoral students the opportunity to carry out in-depth research in this field. It aims to produce specialists in the anthropology of Amazigh heritage and culture, with the theoretical and practical skills needed to contribute to academic research, heritage conservation and cultural development in the Aurès region and in Algeria.
The program aims to train doctoral students to conduct field research, devise conservation strategies and develop critical reflection on contemporary issues facing Amazigh heritage and culture, particularly in terms of globalization, modernization and cultural policies.
The program emphasizes theoretical, epistemological and methodological knowledge, particularly in linguistic analysis, and proposes multidisciplinary research in the Amazigh field - theoretical, practical, methodological, historical and cultural - reinforced by scientific and practical tools in the analysis and understanding of different Amazigh dialects.
1. To train researchers capable of documenting, analyzing and interpreting the cultural practices and heritage expressions of Amazigh communities, particularly in the Aurès and eastern Algeria.
2. Students will be oriented to conducting field research, collecting data and using anthropological methods of analysis (qualitative and quantitative methods) to capture the richness and diversity of Amazigh heritage, traditions and cultural practices still alive in Algeria, particularly in the Aurès.
3. The project places particular emphasis on safeguarding, transmitting and promoting Amazigh tangible and intangible heritage, such as traditional skills, rituals, customs, popular literature and the arts. Doctoral students will be prepared to contribute to local heritage enhancement projects, develop conservation strategies and raise awareness among local populations, particularly practitioners (craftsmen, farmers, connoisseurs, etc.), of the importance of their ancestral cultural heritage.
4. The aim is also to train doctoral students to analyze the dynamics of change in cultural practices and know-how, to understand the interactions between traditions and outside influences (especially modern ones), and to work towards a sustainable valorization of Amazigh heritage.
